ABOUT THE BAND

A Northport band built on music, friendship, and showing up for the community.

We are a Long Island pipe band based in Northport, New York, and we have been part of the community since 1984. You will find us at parades, memorials, civic ceremonies, private celebrations, and the local traditions that make Northport feel like home.

What kind of band is Northport Pipe & Drum?

At heart, we are a group of people who enjoy making good music together and representing Northport well. We take the tradition seriously, but not ourselves too seriously—and we want new members to feel that the door is open to them.

The band welcomes adults from a range of backgrounds. Some members arrive with years of musical experience; others begin as students and learn from the ground up.

Tradition

We respect the history, music and standards that come with pipe-band tradition without treating that tradition as something frozen in time.

Community

Northport is more than a name on the drum. The village, its annual traditions and the people who support the band are central to our identity.

Teaching

Instruction has been part of the band since its earliest years. We continue to make learning the pipes and drums part of the band’s future.
