The look is traditional. The way we wear it is unmistakably Northport.
Our uniform comes from traditional Highland dress, but it has grown into something that feels distinctly ours. We adjust pieces for the season and the occasion, while the Graham of Menteith tartan keeps the whole band visually tied together.
THE TARTAN
Graham of Menteith
The band’s founding members chose Graham of Menteith tartan to reflect the place they called home: a village shaped by both land and sea. Its muted greens and blue-green tones remain one of the most recognizable parts of the Northport look.
The tartan connects the ensemble visually across kilts and accessories while giving the band a distinctive identity that feels rooted in Northport rather than generic Highland imagery.

From the Glengarry down to the kilt, these are the pieces that give the band its familiar Highland silhouette.
Finishing Details
The smaller details—sporran, hose, flashes, and ghillies—are what pull the uniform together and make the band look like one unit.
The Instruments
The pipes carry the melody; the snare and bass drums give it weight and drive. Together they make the sound—and the physical presence—people recognize before we even reach them.
Formal Dress
For formal appearances, the band pairs its traditional pieces with white button-down shirts, vests and jackets.
Seasonal Dress
The look adapts for weather and event conditions, including traditional knit sweaters and lighter rugby-style uniforms during hotter summer performances.
